About Mary Ann Maggiore

Welcome to my blog. I have been actively involved in my community as a youth advocate for over 30 years. My work with inner-city youth as President of Five 4 Five and as a long-time activist is widely recognized. I have been featured by commondreams.org, the LA Times, Marin Independent Journal and other media. I completed a term as Mayor of Fairfax, CA. Elected for environmental and community strategies, I founded a Youth Commission, created proposals for Affordable Housing, and cultivated a bicycle-pedestrian circuit that covers downtown. Committed to finding young people work that is sustainable, I also founded the Service Learning Center at Dominican University. In 2006, I became Director of Girl Scouts Save the Bay – one of California’s largest environmental organizations serving 55,000 girls. I received a BA from Swarthmore College and M.Div. at Starr King School for Unitarian Ministry.  I am the mother of two former teenagers. Gina Maggiore Brownstein, artist and teacher, is also Co-Founder of Five 4 Five & the winner of Scripps College’s Outstanding Recent Alumnae Prize. My son, Maximilian Maggiore Brownstein is a prize-winning theatre lighting technician in NYC. You can reach me at maryannmaggiore@five4five.org.
